Apple Inc. Sued for Alleged Antitrust Violations

Justice Department Announces Lawsuit Against Tech Giant

Government Accuses Apple of Monopolizing App Store

The Justice Department on Thursday filed a sweeping antitrust lawsuit against Apple Inc., alleging that the tech giant has illegally maintained a monopoly over the distribution of apps on its mobile devices.

In a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, the Justice Department accused Apple of using its dominant position in the mobile operating system market to prevent competition and stifle innovation.

"Apple has maintained its monopoly over the distribution of apps on its mobile devices through a series of anticompetitive practices," Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement. "These practices have harmed consumers by limiting their choices, raising prices, and stifling innovation."

The lawsuit alleges that Apple has used its control over the App Store to force developers to pay high commissions and fees, preventing them from competing on price or offering alternative payment methods.

The Justice Department is seeking an injunction to block Apple's alleged anticompetitive practices and an order requiring Apple to change its business practices.
